Take Care of Cast Irons
I had seen cast iron cookwares before, only in the movies and some tourist attractions. They were something I would never use because I did not know how to use them. Mostly, I was intimidated. Non-stick cookwares were, still are, easier to use. It was what I used and knew that the non-stick coasting was bad for the health. My inspiration came on knocking on my door when I watched an episode of Good Eats, with Alton Brown, which was about how to cook with cast iron dutch oven.
There are a lot of information online about how to take care of the cast iron cookwares. Generally, I do not worry about the cooking surfaces because I use oil to cook. At the same time, putting an extra layer of seasoning would not hurt.
Here is the general idea on seasoning
1) Wash the cast iron clean with hot water, soap, and rinse clean
(Before you cook with it for the first time)
2) Dry it with a wash cloth or paper towel
3) Heat the oven at 375。F
4) while waiting on the oven, rub a thin layer of cooking oil on the cast iron
5) Bake the cast iron in the oven for 1 hour
How to take care of them
1) Use a paper towel to wipe clean, after each use
2) Wipe a little bit of oil inside and put it on medium heat for a couple minutes
3) If food is stuck, heat it with some water, baking soda, and scrub it
4) After it is scrubbed clean, dispose the baking soda water solution
5) Repeat step 1 and 2
Note
1) Remember to season the handles
2) Never wash it in the dishwasher
3) Regular seasoning is recommended
